Five files pulled for the current draft. Names are the ones used internally — ask a Graft what they'd rather be called and you'll get a different answer depending on the day.
"The Handler" — Pastoral Division
CLASS — N/A · STRAIN — N/A
Assigned to the protagonist on intake. Genuinely warm, genuinely complicit — the kind of kindness that makes the building easier to walk through and harder to leave. Believes, mostly, that the alternative to the Directorate is worse. Route-critical: how much the player trusts this person determines who they become able to save.
"The One Who Won't Perform"
CLASS IV · STRAIN — HOLLOW / VEIL OVERLAP
Stopped pretending to be grateful for treatment two case-reviews ago. Pastoral Division calls this "regression." The Institute keeps her anyway, because Class IV overlap subjects are rare and Genesis Wing isn't finished asking questions. Emotional core of most player routes that side with the Grafts.
"The True Believer" — Genesis Wing
CLASS — N/A · STRAIN — N/A
Thinks Marrow is the next stage of evolution and that the Directorate is a midwife, not a warden. Not lying, not evil in any way that's easy to point to — just certain, in a way that gets people hurt. The character most likely to say something true and monstrous in the same sentence.
The Silent Office Liaison
CLASS — CLASSIFIED · STRAIN — CLASSIFIED
Unnervingly calm. Always seems to already know what the player did last chapter — because they usually do. Gatekeeper for the route that asks how much of your own memory the Directorate actually lets you keep.
The Feral Case File
CLASS V · STRAIN — ROOT (SUSPECTED)
Referenced constantly. Shown directly only once, very late. The story's monster-that-isn't-quite — whatever the truth of Case 0001 turns out to be, it reframes everything the player thought they understood about the Wheel of Strains.
